Five Things You Don't Know About Me

Kent tagged me with this meme. I actually find this a bit challenging since I am pretty open with who I am on my blog, which means sharing lots of details.
So here it goes:
1. I didn't learn to read until the 2nd grade -- the teachers thought I was "slow," but that wasn't the word they used in the early seventies.
2. I'm scared of heights -- got stuck atop a ferris wheel when I was six or seven with my little sister -- for two hours.
3. I am an extreme introvert -- I could go weeks without talking to another human being and not miss it at all.
4. As a teenager, I was in trouble more often that I wasn't, inluding fighting, drugs, alcohol, stealing, and vandalism.
5. Sappy, sentimental stuff can make me cry -- but unless I'm with someone I trust, I'll choke it down and not let it out.
Well, that didn't hurt too bad.
In keeping with the fun, I tag the following people:
Joe
Metta
Alexis

Nicole
I gotta go to work, so I won't get to inform these folks they've been tagged until later.

Hey Bill,
Thanks for playing.
It's interesting to see that you're an introvert, and I tend to be that way in one-on-one situations. But become more of an extrovert in bigger groups.
Does breathing help with your fear of heights? I would think that you have a whole range of mind-body type of techniques that would sooth this.
Would people who knew you as a teenager be surprised to see what you're doing now? It sounds like quite an interesting journey that you've had.
Hey Kent,
I'm good one on one, but more than a few people and I retreat into myself big time. The only reason I can do my job is that I tune out everything else and just focus on my client.
Yeah, breathing helps with the heights. A bit over a year ago, I rode the sky tram at the San Diego Zoo for the first time. I tried to control my breathing, be present to the fear as it came up, and did a bit of self-centered tonglen meditation. It was actually a beautiful view from up there.
I suspect the people who knew me as a teenager, especially my high school classmates, probably think I'm dead or in jail. I've skipped all the reunions. Really, by the time I was 20, I was on the straight and narrow, getting straight A grades in college and earning scholarships, etc. Alcohol was still a periodic problem until I was 30, but then one day I just said no more and stopped. I was done with the escapism.
Yeah, it's been a long, strange trip.
Peace,
Bill
too late! nishtha already tagged me. does that mean you have to tag someone else? :)
Dang.
It seems that most everyone I know has been tagged. Oh well.
